Dress For Success
Today I got to tell a local charity that they will receive a donation of $500!
On Friday October 10th, 2008 I co-hosted a woman's event at the Alibi Room here in Vancouver. (P.S. it's now officially my new favorite hang out.) It was a tough weekend to get anyone out due to Thanksgiving but we managed to attract a bunch of amazing women. The purpose of the event was to pull together women who are passionate, talented, creative and supportive. These are all qualities I share with my co-host Alekzandra Rea. We try to meet up a few times a month to encourage and support each other in this crazy creative world we live in. The admission was a suggested donation of only $5 and we also held a raffle to raise money for Dress For Success. The charity we decided to support help low income women into the work force. It's an awesome charity.
When I met with Lucia at Dress for Success she was absolutely thrilled and so grateful for our donation. I explained to her that we managed to raise $250 at the event. One of my friends works for TELUS and they have a donation program going on right now that matches any employee's donations. That's how we are able to give them $500!
It really is amazing what can happen when people get together to help others! Special thanks to all the companies that donated prizes for the raffle...Saje Natural Wellness, Cactus Club, Aveda, Exhale Yoga Studio (in Yaletown) and In Moda Hair Salon!
We will definitely do this again. Probably in the spring so stay tuned!
