50 men & 4 women on set! YIKES
On Friday September 22nd (I can't believe it's OCTOBER already!)I dragged my butt out of bed at an hour I haven't seen in ages to get to the subway station where I was meeting some of the men I'd be spending the weekend with. We piled into a van and headed up to Bowmanville.!? Yeah, Bowmanville...where the heck is that you ask? Very close to Oshawa. We drove directly to the site and when we got there we started checking out our new home for the next few days. When we first got there it was freezing but the sun showed it's face pretty quickly and it made my outdoor makeup station all the better. There were about 6 actors and a whole wack of re-inactors(all men) and then the crew (all men except the AD - Assistant Director, the wardrobe lady, Production assistant and ME!). We didn't waste much time jumping into things and by 9:30am they were already shooting. Lots of exterior shots during the weekend. Thankgoodness the rain held off for most of the weekend. It didn't rain until Sunday so we were lucky. Had to cut a couple scenes on Sunday and move one inside but apparently they got a ton of footage so they will have lots to choose from.
The movie was for the History Channel and the working title (might still change it) is called Hitler's Canadians. It was set during the 2nd world war at a POW camp. The camp we were filming at was the actually camp were this story took place. Kinda strange but neat at the same time. Now they use the camp as a Muslum school...they were on holiday the weekend we were there but a few people from the school were still hanging around. It was very interesting how all the women had to cover their skin...you could only see their eyes on most of them. The men on set were told to stay away from them and to not look at them. Oh and here's an interesting and kinda gross fact ...they don't use toliet paper...not sure what they do when they have to do #2 but when the women go #1 they just use a jug of water to wash off. I tried not to judge as I pulled my sleeve down over my hand to open the doors to the washroom.
Everyone on set was very talented and it was a really fun experience for me. I have included some pics of the weekend from one of the guys on set. So glad he sent them to me as I forgot my camera that weekend.
Oh one more thing...I didn't get CATS, the part I was going for went to my good friend Aryin Mackie. So happy for her...now I don't have to worry about going to the Dominican Republic for Christmas with Matt for our good friend's wedding! Can't wait!
Until next time...
