Pearl Jam

Last night Matt and I went to the Pearl Jam concert here in Toronto. Our friend Garo got us tickets and backstage guest passes along with 5 other friends. We met at the Air Canada Center at 6pm and Garo's friend Chris (the sound guy) took us on a backstage tour. We didn't get to meet the band but met the yoga teacher. I was so impressed to find out that they do yoga while on tour! Before the opening act went on Eddie Vetter made a surprise performance. The lights went down and he walked on stayed. Cheers and screams filled the ACC as he began to play. His wife and 2 year old little girl were looking on from the side of the stage. After he played one song he introduced the opening act and they played for about 45mins.

We stayed back stage until 8:15pm when we were told by a huge body guard that we couldn't stay back stage while the show was going on. Chris thought that we would be fine to hang out backstage but apparently they needed to get the VIP's sorted out back stage first and if there was room for us they would come get us and bring us back. We weren't holding our breath at the thought of coming back and assumed that the VIP's were more important than we were. So we said thank you to Chris for the tickets and the tour and headed to our seats. The show started and about 10 mins later Garo got a text message saying that the VIP's were none other than U2! They had a concert 2 nights prior and Pearl Jam & crew went to it. I guess they wanted to return the favour. WOW! We could totally see the whole band on the side of the stage...it was way too cool. The concert was much better than I thought it would be. I have to admit I'm not a huge Pearl Jam fan but loved them about 10 years ago. That was probably the last time I heard any of their songs. I was surprised how many songs I reconized. They did 3 encores and the very last song they turned on all the lights and the crowd went nuts! Then to top it all off Bono came on stage and sung the last song with Eddie and they both played the tamborine! It was awesome! What a night!

Just wanted to share my crazy night...until next time.

L'Oreal Fall Attitude Mall Tour

Here is a picture I took this past weekend. Matt and I went to Centre Island for the afternoon this past Sunday and I got a great shot of the Toronto Skyline from the ferry on the way over.

So I got the job with L'Oreal and had training last week. Tuesday Sept.6th was my first day on the job out at Square One Mall in Mississauga. It was a 5 hour shift and went by pretty fast. I was busy doing free makeup touch ups and consultations. Today I worked a temp job doing data entry...it's money, enough said. Tomorrow I'm back at Square One and will be there Friday and Saturday as well. It's nice getting to know some of the makeup artists when we have a few minutes to chat. The contract is until the end of December and the schedule is pretty flexible. I start back into school again on Monday Sept.12th so I'll be working the weekends for the next little while. I'm going back to The Yorkville School of Makeup to do my hair course and I'm really looking forward to it. It will be nice to get some formal training especially when it comes to updo's.

2 weeks ago I started the book "The Artist's Way". It takes 12 weeks to get through the whole book and it helps you release your creativity. Every morning you have to write 3 full pages before you start your day. A couple days turned into evening pages. It can be challenging some mornings but it's really interesting. You just keep writing even if it's the same thing over and over again. Whatever comes to my head I write down even if it doesn't make sense. Each week you read a short chapter in the book and then do "tasks" through out the week. The list contains about 10 "tasks" to choose from and you can do as many as you like. The other thing you have to do every week is go on an artist's date. It can be anything from watching a movie to going to a concert or show as long as you do it by yourself. We will see what happens as time goes on. I can't believe it's already been 2 weeks since I started!

My friend Aaron was voted out of Canadian Idol tonight. He got down to the last 3 and I'm so very proud of him. I know he will go on to do greater things and I look forward to following his progress. I have to admit that I'm kinda glad he didn't win it. I think if he did win it they would have wanted to mold him a certain way and now he will have the opportunity of choice. He will be able to make this journey a success by choosing the right path for him as an artist and not "The Canadian Idol Guy". He was by far the most talented trained singer in the competition but that doesn't always mean you win in these kinds of contests...especially when there are 13 year old screaming little girls all giddy over a certain 19 year old young man. Anyway, I'm sorry that Aaron's dream didn't come true but personally I think he is better off this way. In the near future, look out for Aaron Walpole!!!

That's about it for now, I'm going to try and write more in here so the entries aren't so long each time. Until next time...
